The Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) and Promotion Points

As you may already know, the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) replaces the APFT as the Army's physical fitness test of record beginning October 1, 2020.

Transition From APFT to ACFT

The APFT has been our test of record for more than 40 years. The Army's physical fitness test must be based in science and accurately predict a Soldier's ability to fight and win in multi-domain operations. The ACFT does so and will become the test of record. It is my intent that the transition to the ACFT will not adversely affect any Soldier or group. The Army will continue to collect performance data and assess standards and requirements to ensure the ACFT best meets the needs of the Army and Soldiers.

The Army will no longer conduct the APFT after...

Army Promotion Points Worksheet

The Army Promotion Points Worksheet, DA Form 3355, has long been a staple in both the Regular Army (RA) and the Army Reserve. Now that the Army has more robust promotion records connectivity, they moved away from the manual form a few years ago.

The DA Form 3355 has not gone away totally either, it's now a tool solely use by Reserve Components to track and record the points of their members. It's still a form of record to capture and determine eligibility of soldiers competing for promotion to E-5 and E-6. Although the Army Promotion Points Worksheet is formally used in the Reserves, it still has a ton of value to offer. It can help you to better understand the overall points process. It's also important to put that...

Using an Army Promotion Points Calculator

Using an Army Promotion Points Calculator to tally up your points haul is a great alternative to wading through complicated regulations, like Army Regulation 600-8-19 (Enlisted Promotions and Reductions).

Although the Army Regulations (AR) can certainly provide you with the important information you need, you can get lost in the bureaucracy and red tape. Let's face it, AR's are not light reading and are published to ensure there is no room for debate or question. Unfortunately, this makes them highly technical in format and language and can be difficult to interpret. Somehow, root canals can seem like a more pleasant experience! Okay, maybe I exaggerate a bit, but I'm sure you understand where I'm coming from.
